The Finance and Economics Faculty-Led Program in Italy offers students a unique opportunity to explore the historical roots and modern landscape of European commerce, banking, and economic thought across four of Italy’s most significant financial and cultural cities — Venice, Bologna, Milan, and Turin.
Over 16 days and 15 nights, participants will engage with leading universities, historic financial institutions, and contemporary business districts, gaining an international perspective on market development, economic policy, and financial history. The program blends academic seminars, institutional site visits, and rich cultural immersion for a comprehensive study abroad experience.
Through guided visits and expert-led sessions, students will trace the evolution of finance and commerce from its earliest European origins to today’s global markets. Academic highlights include visits to Ca’ Foscari University’s Economics Campus in Venice, the University of Bologna’s internationally renowned Economics Department, Bocconi University in Milan, and the School of Management and Economics at the University of Turin. Historic sites deepen this financial narrative: students will explore Venice’s Jewish Ghetto and the Banco di Rialto — among the world’s earliest public banking institutions — and Palazzo della Mercanzia in Bologna, regulating trade since the 14th century. In Milan, a visit to Palazzo Mezzanotte, home of the historic stock exchange, and tours of the Porta Nuova and CityLife business districts connect students to Italy’s modern financial pulse. Turin rounds out the journey with a visit to the Museum of Saving, one of the world’s first museums dedicated to financial literacy, and the Pinacoteca Agnelli within the landmark former FIAT Lingotto factory.
Beyond the classroom, students will enjoy cooking classes, wine tastings, and walking tours through some of Italy’s most iconic streets and piazzas.
