Sounds and Canvas in Spain

Music and Art in Spain

7 days Madrid, Toledo and Segovia

Music and Art

Sounds and canvas in Spain offers students a unique opportunity to engage with creative practitioners, explore Spanish artistic frameworks, and gain cross-cultural perspectives on the relationship between music and visual arts.

Over 7 days, participants will visit leading cultural institutions, meet with art and music experts, and explore historical, visual, and acoustic traditions in Madrid. The program combines academic learning, site visits, technical backstage networking, and cultural exploration, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the interdisciplinary arts in an international context.

Through interactive site visits, expert guest lectures, and hands-on experiences, students will gain insight into musicology, stage mechanics, acoustic engineering, and classical art history. Visits to organizations such as the Prado Museum, the Complutense University of Madrid, and the Teatro Real will provide a deeper understanding of artistic preservation, flamenco history, and the engineering behind massive operatic set designs. The program also includes opportunities for students to engage with cultural practitioners, discuss the intersection of sound and canvas, and explore how historical multi-cultural societies shape artistic expression.

In addition to the academic and professional experiences, students will enjoy cultural immersion through guided tours, regional site visits, and local excursions, including walking tours of historic arts districts, a traditional Spanish cooking class, and day trips to explore the medieval “City of Three Cultures” in Toledo and the 2,000-year-old Roman engineering in Segovia.
