Journalism Across Ireland

Journalism across Ireland

10 days Dublin and Belfast

Journalism

Journalism Across Ireland offers students a unique opportunity to engage with media professionals, explore international broadcasting frameworks, and gain global perspectives on modern reporting and public relations.

Over 10 days, participants will visit leading media institutions, meet with industry experts, and explore news production, conflict reporting, and media framing across Dublin and Belfast. The program combines academic learning, site visits, professional networking, and cultural exploration, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of contemporary journalism in an international context.

Through interactive site visits, guest lectures, and hands-on experiences, students will gain insight into digital verification, combating misinformation, mobile journalism, and political reporting. Visits to organizations such as RTÉ Studios, the Irish Independent headquarters, BBC Northern Ireland, Dublin City University, and Queen’s University Belfast will provide a deeper understanding of public broadcasting, newspaper operations, and the history of the press during times of conflict. The program also includes opportunities for students to engage with broadcast journalists, discuss media ethics, and explore how news networks operate across different political and cultural landscapes.

In addition to the academic and professional experiences, students will enjoy cultural immersion through guided tours, regional site visits, and local excursions, including a walking tour of Belfast’s famous political murals, a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Giant’s Causeway, a traditional Irish dancing lesson at The Merchants Arch Bar, and a farewell dinner to reflect on their experiences.
