Embark on an unforgettable journey into the heart of Irish cinema and cultural history, designed to give you an insider’s perspective on Ireland’s most iconic film locations and studios. From Dublin to Bray, Killarney, Galway and the stunning landscapes of County Kerry, this faculty-led program offers a unique blend of historical insight and contemporary film production experiences. Participants will not only explore Ireland’s deep-rooted cinematic traditions but will also engage with the modern-day industry shaping the country’s cultural narrative today.
The program also offers hands-on engagement with leading film scholars at the National University of Galway, where you’ll explore how Irish cinema has evolved and contributed to global film culture. As you tour Galway’s bustling film scene and visit acclaimed production companies like Abú Media, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking.

Morning
Arrive in Dublin Airport for Meet and Greet with your dedicated TLAC group leader.
Late Morning
Guided tour of EPIC.
Step into the heart of Irish history with a guided tour of EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, located in the vibrant Docklands of Dublin. This award-winning, interactive museum tells the fascinating story of the millions of Irish people who left their homeland and how they influenced the world.
Your guided tour will take you through 20 immersive galleries, where you’ll experience Irish emigration through the ages. Each exhibit is packed with interactive touchscreens, audio-visual presentations, and personal stories that bring to life the global journeys of Irish emigrants. Your expert guide will enrich the experience by sharing captivating stories of famous and lesser-known figures who shaped politics, science, arts, sports, and culture across the globe. Learn about the struggles, triumphs, and lasting contributions of the Irish diaspora, from those who fled the Great Famine to modern-day emigrants seeking new opportunities.

Day 3
Morning
Visit to the\xA0Irish Film Institute (IFI):\xA0Begin with a guided tour of the IFI, Ireland’s national cultural institution dedicated to film. Learn about the preservation and promotion of Irish films. Followed by a Film Screening: Watch a classic Irish film at the IFI, such as The Quiet Man, Michael Collins, or Brooklyn, followed by a discussion on Irish storytelling traditions.
Break for Lunch on Own
Afternoon
Private Dublin Film Locations Walking Tour: Visit iconic locations where films such as Once, P.S. I Love You, and Michael Collins were shot. Stops include Trinity College, Grafton Street, and Dublin Castle.
Evening
Group Welcome dinner including traditional Irish Fare, Dancing and Music.
Day 4
Morning
Early departure from the hotel and travel to Bray for a tour of\xA0Killruddery House & Gardens.
A stunning 17th-century estate nestled in the heart of County Wicklow. Steeped in history and surrounded by spectacular natural beauty, this grand manor and its expansive gardens offer visitors a serene escape into Ireland’s aristocratic past.
The house, home to the Brabazon family for over 400 years, is a masterpiece of Elizabethan Revival architecture. Inside, you’ll find exquisite period interiors that reflect the grandeur of a bygone era, from lavish drawing rooms to a spectacular library. Visitors can explore the history of the Brabazon family, who still reside in the estate, through guided tours that highlight their unique contributions to Irish heritage.
The gardens, originally designed in the 17th century, are among the oldest in Ireland. They feature beautifully manicured lawns, formal parterres, reflective ponds, and enchanting woodland walks. Visitors can stroll through the elegant walled garden, admire the symmetrical beauty of the Long Ponds, or lose themselves in the peaceful woodland trails that wind through the estate.

Afternoon
Visit Ardmore Studios: Tour Ireland’s largest film and television studio in Wicklow, where many films and TV shows (including\xA0Braveheart, Vikings, The Tudors) have been produced. Learn about the studio's history and the role of Irish landscapes in international film production.
Evening
Return to Dublin for dinner on own and Free time.
Day 5
Morning
Early Departure for\xA0Portmagee in County Kerry\xA0and take a boat trip to\xA0Skellig Michael,\xA0the iconic island where scenes from\xA0Star Wars:\xA0The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were filmed.
Early Afternoon
Guided Tour of Skellig Michael: Explore the ancient monastic settlement, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discuss how Ireland's dramatic landscapes are often used in fantasy and sci-fi films, including the challenges of filming on remote locations like Skellig Michael.
Evening
Return to Killarney for an overnight stay, free time and dinner on own.
Day 6
Morning
Depart from Killarney to Galway, one of Ireland’s cultural capitals and a frequent filming location for period dramas and contemporary Irish films.
Late Morning
Guest Lecture from faculty from\xA0The Huston School of Film and Digital Media, part of the National University of Galway.
Lunch at the University
Afternoon
Check into accommodation followed by a Film and Theatre Tour of Galway: Visit the Town Hall Theatre and learn about Galway’s connection to Irish and international cinema, including its famous Galway Film Fleadh.
Evening
Free time to explore Galway’s cobblestone streets, street performers, and lively arts scene, followed by dinner on own.
Day 7
Morning
Visit the\xA0Cliffs of Moher: These iconic cliffs have featured in films like\xA0Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princeand The Princess Bride.\xA0Discuss the use of natural landscapes in film and the technical challenges of filming in these environments.
Late Afternoon
Free time to explore Galway on your own.
Day 8
Morning
Discover the heart of Ireland’s vibrant film and television industry with a behind-the-scenes tour of Abú Media Film Studios in Galway.
Abú Media\xA0is known for producing award-winning content, including the critically acclaimed historical drama “An Klondike”, which follows Irish emigrants during the Klondike Gold Rush, and “Arracht”, a powerful film set during the Great Famine. Their productions span genres from drama to documentaries, showcasing Ireland’s rich storytelling tradition.
During the tour, students will have the chance to explore the production facilities, see sets and props, and learn about the filmmaking process from pre-production to post-production. They may also have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals, such as producers, directors, or scriptwriters, who will share insights into the creative and technical aspects of film production. This visit offers an exciting, hands-on look at how Irish stories are brought to life on screen.
