History of Great Britain

History in the UK

15 days Edinburgh, Haltwhistle, York, Warwick, Oxford, Wessex, London, Canterbury and Dover

History

History of Great Britain offers students a unique opportunity to engage with academic and historical frameworks, explore British architectural and socio-political developments, and gain cross-cultural perspectives on the relationship between ancient civilisations and modern society.

Over 15 days, participants will visit leading cultural institutions, meet with regional history experts, and explore historical, artistic, and military traditions across Edinburgh, Haltwhistle, York, Warwick, Oxford, Bath, London, and Canterbury. The program combines academic learning, site visits, technical museum networking, and cultural exploration, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the interdisciplinary humanities in an international context.

Through interactive site visits, expert commentary, and hands-on site exploration, students will gain insight into pre-Roman and Roman Britain, medieval Viking settlements, Tudor royal lineages, and twentieth-century wartime strategies. Visits to world-renowned organisations and landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, York Minster, the Bodleian Library, the Roman Baths, Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, and the British Museum will provide a deeper understanding of historical preservation, imperial naval empires, and the engineering behind monumental classical and medieval structures. The program also includes opportunities for students to engage with research themes, discuss the intersection of law and history at the Magna Carta Memorial, and explore how ancient societies shape modern national identity.

In addition to the academic and professional experiences, students will enjoy cultural immersion through guided tours, regional site visits, and local excursions, including walking tours of historic city centres, traditional regional group dinners, and day trips to explore the dramatic coastal fortifications of Dover Castle and the literary heritage at Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon.
