Art, Architecture and History in Spain

11 days Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Córdoba, Seville and Granada

Art, Architecture and History

Art, Architecture & History in Spain offers students a unique opportunity to engage with academic and historical frameworks, explore Spanish architectural and artistic developments, and gain cross-cultural perspectives on the relationship between diverse religious empires and modern Iberian society.

Over 11 days, participants will visit leading cultural institutions, engage with on-site historical narratives, and explore artistic, architectural, and religious traditions across Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Córdoba, Seville, and Granada. The program combines academic learning, site visits, structural analysis, and cultural exploration, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the interdisciplinary humanities in an international context.

Through interactive site visits and hands-on regional immersion, students will gain insight into Romanesque and Gothic foundations, the monumental works of Antoni Gaudí, and the dramatic historical trajectory of the Reconquista. Visits to world-renowned organisations and landmarks such as the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía, the stunning Sagrada Família, the historic Mezquita-Catedral of Córdoba, and the Alhambra Museum will provide a deeper understanding of historical preservation, religious hybridity, and the architectural evolution of Islamic and Christian dynasties.

In addition to the academic and visual experiences, students will enjoy cultural immersion through guided city walks, regional site exploration, and local excursions, including walking tours of historic quarters like La Judería and Albaicín, traditional group dinners, and high-speed rail travel across the changing Spanish landscape.
