Civil Engineering in Italy

Civil Engineering – Italy

9 days Milan, Turin & Genoa

Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering Faculty-Led Program in Italy offers students a unique opportunity to explore structural innovation, seismic engineering, and urban regeneration across Northern Italy — a region renowned for balancing historic preservation with cutting-edge infrastructure — spanning Milan, Turin, and Genoa.

Over 9 days and 8 nights, participants will engage with three of Italy’s most prestigious engineering universities, iconic modern infrastructure, and industry professionals, gaining an international perspective on construction safety, smart monitoring systems, and maritime civil engineering. The program blends academic seminars, technical site visits, and cultural immersion for a comprehensive study abroad experience.

Through expert lectures and hands-on field visits, students will examine how modern engineering solutions address real-world challenges. Academic highlights include a guest lecture on earthquake-resistant construction and seismic retrofitting at the Politecnico di Milano, a session on infrastructure planning and socio-economic development at the Politecnico di Torino’s Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering, and a briefing on maritime infrastructure and bridge engineering resilience at the University of Genoa. Technical site visits bring theory into practice: students will analyze high-rise foundation design and sustainable urban planning in Milan’s CityLife district, and join local engineers at the iconic Genoa San Giorgio Bridge to study its fast-track reconstruction, aerodynamic design, and smart structural monitoring sensors.

Beyond the engineering sites, students will enjoy rich cultural immersion through a walking tour of Milan’s Duomo and Sforzesco Castle, a guided bike tour of Turin’s historic districts, a Piedmontese cooking class, and traditional farewell dining featuring Ligurian specialties.
