The Music Faculty-Led Program in Italy offers students a unique opportunity to explore operatic tradition, acoustic engineering, and the global music business across Milan, Bologna, and Rome, the historic cradle of Western musical innovation.
Over 14 days and 13 nights, participants will engage with leading conservatories, universities, legendary performance venues, and major music industry companies, gaining an international perspective on how Italy’s rich musical legacy continues to shape the contemporary global entertainment industry. The program blends academic engagement, professional site visits, artisan masterclasses, and cultural immersion for a deeply comprehensive study abroad experience.
Through expert-guided visits and industry access, students will trace music from its classical roots to its modern commercial landscape. Highlights include a tour of Teatro della Scala and its museum, a visit to the Milan Conservatory — Italy’s largest institute of musical education — and a session at Sony Music Entertainment Italy exploring artist development and music marketing. Academic engagement continues at the University of Bologna’s Department of Arts, Music and Performance, and the International Museum and Library of Music in Palazzo Sanguinetti. A day trip to Cremona brings students to the Violin Museum and the workshops of the Consorzio Liutai “Antonio Stradivari,” where master luthiers demonstrate the UNESCO-recognized craft of handmade string instrument making. A visit to Venice’s Teatro La Fenice and Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone round out an extraordinary journey through Italy’s musical architecture.
Beyond music, students will explore the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum.
