Literature and Poetry in Ireland

8 days Dublin

Literature and Poetry

Literature and Poetry in Ireland offers students a unique opportunity to engage with creative practitioners, explore Irish literary frameworks, and gain cross-cultural perspectives on the relationship between history and written text.

Over 8 days, participants will visit leading cultural institutions, meet with art and literature experts, and explore historical, textual, and narrative traditions in Dublin. The program combines academic learning, site visits, technical archive networking, and cultural exploration, providing students with a well-rounded understanding of the interdisciplinary arts in an international context.

Through interactive site visits, expert guest lectures, and hands-on experiences, students will gain insight into Irish English literature, manuscript history, archival preservation, and classical drama. Visits to organizations such as the National Library of Ireland, Trinity College, and the Abbey Theatre will provide a deeper understanding of artistic preservation, Joycean history, and the mechanics behind classic theatrical staging. The program also includes opportunities for students to engage with cultural practitioners, discuss the intersection of history and paper, and explore how historical societies shape artistic expression.

In addition to the academic and professional experiences, students will enjoy cultural immersion through guided tours, regional site visits, and local excursions, including walking tours of historic arts districts, a traditional literary pub experience, and visits to explore the medieval Book of Kells and the historic Oscar Wilde House.
