Neuroscience in Spain

Neuroscience – Spain

12 days Madrid, Alicante & Barcelona

Neuroscience

The Neuroscience Faculty-Led Program in Spain offers students a unique opportunity to explore the brilliant intersection of brain science and architecture across Madrid, Alicante, and Barcelona, a major global hub for neuroscience research.

Over 12 days and 11 nights, participants will engage with world-class neurological institutes, leading universities, and Gaudí’s iconic structures, gaining insight into the deep ties between brain function and built environment. The program blends immersive lab exposure, technical site visits, and cultural immersion for a comprehensive study abroad experience.

Through expert visits and academic sessions, students will trace neuroscience from its historical foundations to its cutting-edge applications. Highlights include a visit to the Cajal Neuroscience Center, examining the origins of the neuron doctrine, the Institute for Neuroscience and a lecture on the nervous system at the Universidad Miguel Hernández in Alicante, and a lecture on human behavior at the University of Barcelona. The program’s signature thread connects neuroscience to architecture: students will analyze how Gaudí’s organic geometries at Park Güell and La Sagrada Família intentionally shape human psychological perception and emotional response.

Beyond the science, students will enjoy rich cultural immersion through a guided tour of the Prado Museum, a boat tour of the Costa Blanca and Tabarca Island, a cooking masterclass in Murcia, a flamenco class in Barcelona, and a visit to the medieval Santa Bárbara Castle.
